In 1956, a dedicated group of
Christians had the dream of starting a new congregation to glorify God
in growing North Huntsville. The
congregation has come a long way since the time it first met in the
auditorium of the Madison County Bible School in October of 1956 with
Brother W.E. (Chick) Albright preaching the inaugural sermon.
In ‘57 the church bought its present property and began meeting
for worship in the Thomas House the following year.
An auditorium and education wing were constructed in ‘59 with
N.B. Hardeman holding a meeting to open the new structure.
The current auditorium was built in ‘64 along with additional
classroom space, and the previous worship facility was transformed into
a fellowship hall.
The real story of Memorial Parkway cannot be told by bricks and mortar.
It is the story of countless lives touched and changed by the
gospel of Christ. The
church reached its height in attendance in the early 70s during the
tenure of JC Davidson who served as Memorial Parkway’s preacher for
over 20 years. Attendance
has been steadily increasing since 1985 with A.M. worship averaging
around 500.
With respect and appreciation for our heritage, we now look ahead.
The Parkway Dream is what we call our shared vision of what we
hope to become for the glory of God.
We are striving to renew our personal holiness and service to
others while taking a positive stand for biblical values and teaching.
With God’s power behind us, we believe the best is yet to come!
Parkway’s
50th anniversary will take place in October
2006.
